My oldest daughter Kennedy and I have been picking berries in the field and making homemade strawberry jam for the past eight years. The first five, we gave it away for free. Just because we loved the idea of making it at home, pairing that perfect red houndstooth fabric cover, and delivering this gift of domestic goodness to friends and family.
It led to one thing — genuine appreciation that always made them smile.
A few years later… friends and family started requesting orders. They couldn't wait until it was berry season, and we had pre-orders coming in before the fields were even ready. Our jam was truly — the best.
A nine-year-old cashing in over $1K selling jam. Strawberry jam!! This was bananas. I couldn't believe it.
But those orders made a difference to Kennedy's little soul. She felt needed, appreciated and respected — which bred a heart of gratitude and gratefulness. Which is the secret sauce to our business. Your kids will inadvertently develop a heart for servitude — which is what the world needs. A lot. These days.
